1.The meaning of soilless cultivation

The method of cultivating plants using nutrient solution and substrate instead of soil, or simply using nutrient solution, is called soilless cultivation. Its core is to replace traditional soil with nutrient solution, so it can also be called nutrient solution cultivation.

This artificially created plant root environment not only meets the needs of plants for mineral nutrition, water, and air conditions, but can also be artificially regulated to meet or even promote plant growth and development, and unleash the maximum production potential of plants, achieving the highest economic benefits or ornamental value.

Soilless cultivation has enabled humans to overcome the limitations of being dominated by the natural environment for thousands of years, and has pushed agricultural production to a new stage of industrial and commercial production, becoming the embryonic form of future agriculture.

2. Classification of soilless cultivation

2.1 Substrate cultivation, abbreviated as substrate cultivation, refers to the soilless cultivation method in which plant roots grow in various natural or artificially synthesized substrates, fix the roots through the substrates, and supply nutrients, water, and oxygen to the plants.

2.1.1 Inorganic substrate cultivation refers to the method of cultivating crops using inorganic substances such as river sand, rock wool, perlite, vermiculite, etc.

2.1.2 Organic matrix cultivation refers to the method of cultivating crops using organic substances such as peat, sawdust, rice husks, sugarcane bagasse, and tree bark.

2.2 Non substrate cultivation refers to the direct growth of plant roots in liquid or fine mist nutrient solutions.

2.2.1 Hydroponic cultivation is characterized by the majority of plant roots growing in a liquid nutrient layer,

2.2.2 Aeroponic culture, also known as spray culture, aerosol culture or air culture, refers to the use of spray method to directly spray nutrient solution onto plant roots.
